Karad city is a historic place for tourism. Karad is a city in Satara district in the southern part of Indian state of Maharashtra and it is 320 km from Mumbai and 170 km from Pune. It lies at the confluence of Koyna River and the Krishna River. The two rivers originate at Mahabaleshwar, which is around 100 km from Karad. Koyana dam is about 60 kms from Karad where the major hydroelectric projects of Maharashtra established. The city is well connected by roads, rails and air route. This place is 170 kms far from Pune and 70 kms from Kolhapur.
Karad is located at 17°16’40” N 74°11’3” E. It has an average elevation of 566 metres (1856 feet). The atmosphere of Karad is very pleasant. Karad is located near Agashiva caves which has been referred in great epic Mahabharata. It has the shape of an "Aum" (Devanagari) when viewed aerially.
